There is a saying that goes “let your haters be your motivators.” It might sound like a good idea…right? Take the negative and use it as motivation. Although it may sound good, it’s a terrible idea. I have never liked or agreed with this quote.
Hatred is not good for your spirit. Jealousy and envy are bad. The energy they bring is bad. Going out of your way to make people envy you and hate you bring along with it the vibrational energy of hate. It is just as bad as being envious of someone or hating them. Everything is energy. Everything is spiritual.
For this reason it is better not to be too worried when people hate you or love you. Your self-worth should not be based on the approval of others. If you are consumed by their hate or love you may be devastated when their feelings for you change.
I was watching one of my favorite cartoons and the characters were articulating this very thing.
Riley: “Ooh, man, I can’t wait for n****s to start hatin’, I can’t wait!”
Huey: “So you judge your success by the amount of ill-will that you generate from those around you.”
Riley:“Yeah. If n****s ain’t mad at you then you’re doing something wrong.”
Huey: “By that definition, then, you have a very bright future.”
Riley: “Thanks, man.”
“Shinin’” The Boondocks, written by Aaron McGruder, Yamara Taylor and Jason Van Veen, directed by Dan Fasusett, Sony Pictures Televison, 2007.
As ridiculous as Riley sounds, there are people who actually agree with this logic. There are people who lie and create and entire false narratives about themselves and their lives in order to attract ill will from others. There are people who use social media for this very thing.
Every religious text will warn about the harm and ill intent of jealousy and envy. Here are a few:
James 3:16 says “For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.”
It says where they exist. It doesn’t say when someone wishes this on you only. Don’t take pride in putting other people in that place of having bad feelings. Wanting people to hate you to feel validated is a vile practice with selfish ambition
“There has come to you the disease of the nations before you, jealousy and hatred. This is the ‘shaver it’ (destroyer); I do not say that it shaves hair, but that it shaves (destroys) faith…” [(Hasan) Jamee at-Tirmidhee (2434)]
It is a destroyer!
Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 4, Verse 22
Content with whatever gain comes of its own accord, and free from envy, they are beyond the dualities of life. Being equipoised in success and failure, they are not bound by their actions, even while performing all kinds of activities.
I believe in the law of attraction, karma, The law of reciprocity…whatever you want to call it. You receive what you put out vibrationally. Maybe you are receiving hate because you are omitting the energy of needing people to be jealous of you for yourself esteem and self worth to thrive.
This may not be the case, but if it is the case you may want to find other motivators. Love is the most powerful of motivators. Fear is the most dangerous of motivators.
People may think Jealousy is a good motivator because it pushes them to want more. That’s not always jealousy and envy. Admiration is a good motivator.
The moral of the story is that whatever fuels you needs to be good for you vibrationally.
